They are number one for toys & small electrical appliances, & a leading player in other markets including DIY & gardening, consumer electronics & furniture.

They also have a significant market share in furniture, jewellery, DIY products & sports equipment.

Founded in 1973, Argos UK was the pioneer of catalogue retailing in the UK .

After nearly 6 years as a private company they were acquired by B.A.T. Industries Limited in 1979, & then demerged in 1990. UK Argos became a limited company again until it was acquired by GUS plc in 1998.

Argos uk is now part of the Argos Retail Group, owned by GUS plc.
